Instructional Strategies

Provide alternative seating for texture purposes

Provide a room where the light can be adjusted

Provide background noise or lack thereof depending on the students

Provide an opportunity for the scent of the room to change to meet the childs’ needs

Post a daily schedule with words and pictures

Provide number/alphabet guides for children on their desk

Be careful that there are not too many distractions in the classroom

Establish eye contact when talking to students

Warn students when a loud noise may occur

Help students stay organized

Simple/ step-by-step directions

Be consistent throughout the classroom

Prepare students for transitions

Allow students to take “breaks” when needed to prevent or help with over stimulation
